After the fire of 1510, only a western wing with a palace remained from the original Gothic royal castle. The other three wings were demolished and replaced by town hall, brewery and barracks. Today the castle serves as Museum of Prácheň. There are situated series of interesting expositions concerning multiple domains - from gold washing in the Otava river to fishery. It is supplemented by live fish in aquaria. Part of the exposition is focused on the history the town of Písek.
