The Hromnické lake was created by flooding of a quarry, where vitriolic stale was extracted before 1898 - a raw material for production of the oil of vitriol, or oleum. The lake is 190 m long and 130 meters wide. Its waters are reddish (the pond was called also "Red") and dead - as it is rather a solution of ferric sulphate than common water. It was caused by the erstwhile technology of oleum production - piles of broken vitriolic slate surrounding the lake were intentionally deluged in water and the released ferric sulphate was captured in vats for further processing. It is situated north of Hromnice, north east of Třemošná.
