Jáchymov is the oldest radioactive spa in the world. First traces of local settlements are dating back to the 14th century. City Jáchymov was founded in 1516. Twenty years later it was the second most populated town in Bohemia. In the 1950's Jáchymov became a concentration camp for political prisoners who were made to mine uranium ore. The first curative spring was opened in 1864. Thermal and radioactive springs help for example with disorder of metabolism, nervous system diseases, locomotive organs problems and many other illnesses.

Jáchymov is an ideal starting point to surrounding ski areas. From Jáchymov goes a direct road (3,5 km) to chair-lift that takes you to Klínovec. Very famous is a mint of Jáchymovský tolar. The ruin of watch castle Freudenstein occurs on the hill over the town. The original Gothic main church was rebuilt in the 16th century by J.Mocker.
