The Neo-classical building was constructed in the years 1781-1783 by the Count F. A. Nostitz-Rieneck (Arch. A. Haffenecker) for Count Nostic National Theatre. The theatre was built across from the entrance to the Charles University. The name Theatre of Estates has been used from the year 1798. Mozart?s world premier of Don Giovann was given here in the year 1787. Famous is also Tyl?s farce Fidlovacka with the F. Škroup?s song Kde domov můj (Where is my home). The composer C. M. Weber worked here in the years 1813-1816. In the years 1859 and 1881 the theatre was rebuilt, in the year 1991 its general reconstruction was finished.
