Horusický Rybník (Horusice Pond) - Veselí nad Lužnicí (Třeboňsko)

Adresa:

Veselí nad Lužnicí

Horusický Rybník (Horusice Pond) is the third largest pond in South Bohemia. It is situated near the road between the towns Veselí nad Lužnicí and České Budějovice, about 3 km south-west of Veselí nad Lužnicí. Its name comes from the name of the village Horusice, which is located on the northern bank.

The pond was founded by the well-known pond designer Štěpánek Netolický in 1512 on the Bukovský Potok (Bukovsko Stream). Behind the 11 m high and 730 m long revetment there is a water area that is 415 ha large. On the south-eastern bank of the pond the nature reserve Ruda was founded for the protection of the large peat bog.
