Castle Hasištejn (Mostecko)

A ruin of a Gothic castle is situated near locality Místo, 8 km North of Kadaň, just at the foot of the Krušné hory (Severe Mountains) near the German border on the North-West of Bohemia. Castle was founded in the first half of 14 century to secure the route from Saxony to Bohemia. The first notice about Hasištejn can be found in the Coat Majestas Karolina published by the King Charles IV.
After 1620 the castle was confiscated and left to desolate. What was left was further destroyed by Swedes in 30 year war. In 1810 Goethe visited the castle to pay honor to the Bohuslav Hasištejnský from Lobkovice. In 1910 a memorial marker have been carved into the crag. Last private owner of the castle - Emanuel Karch - had it renovated in 1891-92. Then the castle became statutory property.
