Designated an urban monument reserve in the year 1978, Litoměřice, located on the confluence of the rivers Labe and Ohře, has a historical centre that boasts a wealth of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. Nevertheless, it is the town's ecclesiastical architecture that holds pride of place among the historical monuments of its kind in the Czech Republic. It is so also because Litoměřice is the seat of a diocese and a bishop's residential town. As for modern history, the Litoměřice Exhibition Grounds, the venue of an annual autumn gardening fair that is fittingly called The Garden of Bohemia, is worthy of mention.
