On the 12 km stretch of railway line from Tanvald to Harrachov the trains overpower several hundreds of meters of ascent. In past locomotives used the cogs here. There are also a few tunnels and a bridge over the river Jizera in Kořenov. In the years 1991-92 there was restored the train line between Harrachov and the Polish town Szklarska Poreba. The line was not used for 47 years.
