The northern tower of St. Jacob's Church in Jihlava is 63 meters high and it serves as a lookout tower. In the past it used to be a watchtower where the tower master watched the town to protect it from fire and enemies. He also blew the horn on the hour and welcomed important visitors with fanfares. The tower was opened to the public in June 1991 as part of the celebration of the 555th anniversary of the acceptance of the Basil Council's Conventions.
