The fortification system is one of the most famous sights in the town. It was built after the foundation of the Hussite and it was based on the combination of two circular walls - the main one and the bailey. Several towers and cannon bastions were incorporated later. Probably the best-preserved part of the fortification system is the Žižka´s Bastion, sometimes also called The Big Bastion. Although most of the town walls were destroyed in the 19th century, their remaining is very valuable and they were proclaimed a national cultural monument.
